ABOUT
Skolestua on the island of Dønna, offers accommodation in a former school. Built in 1922, the old Nord-Dønna school still stands in the sunshine to welcome guests. It is a place to rest and to find a peaceful spot to rejuvenate and re-connect. Skolestua once welcomed children to overnight when their journey home was too far or too dangerous, especially in the winter. Today, Skolestua welcomes you to stay for a while to feed your soul and fill your senses in the rich cultural and natural beauty of Dønnes and Nord-Dønna.
OUR ROOMS
Skolestua offers 4 charming rooms.
The 4 bedrooms in Skolestua can accommodate 9/11 guests.
Bedding and towels are provided.
There is still an authentic feel to Skolestua, but the former gymnasium, showers, changing rooms and teachers rest room are now part of a rich story to tell.
Art work created from old school books capture stories of lessons from the past, while the fresh simple decor encourage a welcome rest.
OUR SERVICES
Breakfast
The Kitchen in Skolestua is well equipped to allow you to cater for yourselves. There is a large fridge- freezer, dish washer, coffee maker, kettle, full cooker, pots, crockery, cutlery and some basic condiments.
As a guest, you also have the option to consider enjoying a traditional breakfast (Monday - Saturday) prepared with locally-sourced ingredients served at Dønnes Gård (booking required), a pleasant short walk through the farm grounds.
Garden
Outside Skolestua, the old school playground is sunny, with an outdoor seating area perfect for enjoying the evening sun and a large outdoor area that can be used for ball games and play.

Dinner

There are two bathrooms in Skolestua.
A large bathroom with shower and toilet and a shower with separate toilet.
For your health, the bathrooms are allocated to the rooms depending on the number of people in your group.
When Skolestua is booked for two different groups each group has its own bathroom.
Hairdryer
A hairdryer is available in each room.
Washing Machine
A washing machine is available for the use of guests.

The 4 spaces are in the grounds of
the old School yard.
The location is perfect here to sit outside and enjoy the evening sun.

Walk Dønnes Nature and Culture Trail
Dønnes Nature and Culture Trail starts at the farm and goes through Dønnesskogen and takes you up to the viewpoint on Dønnesfjellet 128 masl. The trail is well marked and signposted.
Be stunned by the view of the Helgeland coast from the top of Dønnesfjellet (128m)
Be still and notice the abundant wildflowers, birds and wildlife.

It is magical in the Summer when the sun never sets and glides along the horizon.
Take a walk, cycle or drive to the top and just watch and listen.
Find Snekkevik Skole
Snekkevikk Skole, built in 1836 and Nord-Norges oldest school building, imagine school life there, where the local children attended school up until 1922. After which time Nord-Dønna Skole - Skolestua - was built.
Peak through windows to step back in time to see inside the schoolroom and imagine the whispers of childhood lessons from a time long gone.
